Port Gregory Info & Accommodation - Port Gregory, Western Australia
Port Gregory is a small but scenic fishing town located about 70km south of Kalbarri. The natural harbour is surrounded bu an exposed reef which stretches for 5km. Activities besides fishing include sand boarding, surfing, diving, swimming and wind surfing. To get to Port Gregory you drive pass Hutt Lagoon which is also known as 'pink lake' due to colour caused by a certain bacteria which gets trapped in the sand.
Review of Port Gregory by Akerz, 23rd July 2007Just to have a quick look, we drove through to Port Gregory while on the way to Hutt River Province and Kalbarri. Although it was raining, we could imagine it would have been a nice spot to relax for a few days. The Pink Lake was interesting, not sure how well you can see it in our photo but the lake certainly has a prominent pink tint to it. Apparently as the sun sets, the lake turns to a darker, more purple colour. Parts of the lake are sectioned off for the harvesting of the bacteria 'Dunaliella Salina' which is a rich source of Beta Carotene.
