Things to do in Geraldton, Western Australia

• Visit the HMAS Sydney Memorial - Built on Mt Scott, this memorial commemorates the loss of 645 men that went down on the HMAS Sydney in 1941. The wreck of the ship is said to be in high waters near this area but to this day, has never been found. The memorial includes a wall of remembrance, bronze statue of the 'Waiting Women', seven pillars (representing the seven seas holding up a domed roof made from 645 interlocking seagulls & an eternal flame (lit from the one in Kings Park, Perth). Regular guided tours are available.
• WA Museum Geraldon - Located on the Batavia Coast Marina and open from 10am to 4pm, the Geraldton Museum has a world class display of the many Dutch Shipwrecks from the 15th and 16th centuries (plus a lot more).
• Bill Sewell Complex - This building was a Hospital from 1887 - 1966 and was later used as a prison until 1984. This historic building should be your first stop in Geraldton as it now houses the Geraldton Visitors Centre.
• Cathedrals - The Cathedral of the Holy Cross which is shaped as a star pointing the east, made from reinforced concrete and containing 15 stained glass windows. St Francis Xavier Cathedral was designed by Monsignor John Hawes who was a Parish Priest turned Architect who designed many churches in the area, of which 22 are still standing today.
• Lobster Factory at Fisherman's Wharf - The largest live lobster factory in Western Australia. During the lobster season, the factory is open for tours.
• Geraldton Regional Art Gallery - Open Daily from 10am to 5pm (Sunday & Mondays, 1:30pm - 4:30pm) the Art Gallery has a constantly rotating display of exhibitions from state wide, national & international artists.
